Auditions & Employment
The Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre is a resident company. All members of the company have some college or equivalent dramatic experience, must be available to work full time from May through early August, and must be able to live at Ferrum College. Some members of the company have significantly more experience and may work from April through early August with occasional guest appearances throughout the year. Additionally, the BRDT may be willing to consider Apprentice Company Members. These people must be high school graduates or first year college students who have dramatic experience.

The Artistic Director, R. Rex Stephenson, and the artistic staff will consider a videotape/DVD audition at any time but prefers receiving such auditions in January or February. A videotape audition should demonstrate the performer’s talents and should reveal the performer’s performance philosophy. No audition should include clips from performances. It should include

  • One or two monologues of no more than ninety seconds each. Performers doing two monologues should be sure that the monologues contrast in some way.
  • Sixteen bars of singing or playing from those who sing or play musical instruments,
  • Personal statement

All actors should provide a headshot and resume with their videotape. The BRDT will not guarantee return of audition materials.

The BRDT does hold local auditions annually by appointment on the fourth Saturday in March. Call the box office after February 1 to make a specific appointment.

The BRDT regularly auditions prospective actors at national conferences such as NETC.CompensationAll regular BRDT company members receive salary and all room and board expenses. Interns receive free room and board but do not receive salaries. Both kinds of company members are eligible to earn college credit without paying tuition.
